In Memory…
Dr. Richard Sarkin was a man everyone wanted to be around because of his magnetic personality and energetic spirit. In his teaching at the University at Buffalo and as Director of Pediatric Medical Education, many benefited from his lessons which ranged from medical principles and patient care to being a well rounded individual and leading a balanced life. He was a tireless advocate for the humanistic practice of medicine, and taught that good medicine includes idealism, altruism, and compassion. Dr. Sarkin touched thousands of lives in Western New York and around the country. His strong devotion to work and teaching was outstanding, but paled in comparison to his love of spending time with friends and most of all his family. The life of Dr. Richard Sarkin ended tragically in a plane crash on October 19, 2004. This race is a small tribute to a wonderful man.
