This announcement is from the MCAT administrators.
Registration for the January - May 2010 test dates is now open. Examinees are successfully scheduling their test dates.
A new feature of the system this year is that it will display available sites rather than displaying all sites whether they have seat availability or not. For example, the seats for the January dates in Beirut, Lebanon are already sold out, so Lebanon will not appear as an option in the search function for January. This helps eliminate unnecessary searching and wasted time for the user.
If you have any questions about registration, please contact the MCAT Resource Center at (202) 828-0690 or mcat@aamc.org.
The MCAT administrators just indicated that they will be posting a list of all AMCAS schools who have noted that they will accept January scores 2010 for the current application year of 2010.
This list will be available on the MCAT Web site by the time they open registration for the January – May administrations of the MCAT exam. They expect to open registration November 2.
The DO schools that will accept a January MCAT are already listed in the College Information Book (CIB).

If you plan on coming through the Committee for the April 1 deadline, please jot us quick note to let our office know. Having a sense of the total number of applicants for the spring cycle will help us to better prepare for a smooth application process.
Please just jot a quick note to Jinny Majewski at vmajewsk@buffalo.edu if you plan on coming through in April.
Thanks!
Potential applicants might be interested in purchasing and reviewing a copy of AACOM’s 2010 Osteopathic Medical College Information Book (CIB). This year, AACOM has released the CIB much earlier than in the past to facilitate early exploration among the more than 12,000 individuals who are applying to osteopathic medical schools. The AACOM reports that applications to the nation’s osteopathic medical colleges have grown by more than 30 percent in the last three years alone.
AACOM’s College Information Book (CIB) is the official guide for prospective students, applicants, pre-health advisors and others interested in gaining information about or applying to the nation’s osteopathic medical colleges. The publication has been expanded to cover a wealth of important, timely topics, including international practice rights, residency and matches, board examinations, licensure and much more. In addition, the book features six current or recent DO students discussing their personal stories, “In Their Own Words.”
To order additional copies of the 2010 CIB, visit the online AACOM Bookstore.
Please note that the AACOMAS 2010 application will become available in May. The application will be extremely user-friendly with no significant changes. While it is your decision, please consider releasing your information to your advisor, so we will be able to monitor UB students in mters of DO admission.
You are encouraged to begin (and complete) the application process early. Although some osteopathic colleges will continue to receive applications for 2010 through the spring of 2010, interview appointments and seats in classes fill early. With over 2.7 applicants per first year seat in the osteopathic medical schools, the earlier an application is submitted, the more comprehensive review that can be received.

The MCAT administrators expect to open registration for the June through September administrations of the MCAT exam this Thursday, March 5. The MCAT web site will be updated soon with this information. They are unable to announce a specific opening time, however, once registration is open, they will update the web page accordingly.
If you plan on coming through the Prehealth Committee for DECEMBER 1, 2008 in support of your UB Medical School Early Assurance application (Early Assurance to UB’s School of Dental Medicine and SUNY Upstate Medical Early Assurance can use the April 1, 2009 Committee deadline), please carefully read the following information. Again, you will need at least 4 individual letters of recommendation by DECEMBER 1, 2008.
Please turn in your materials to Virginia Majewski in 109 Norton Hall. Her phone is 645-6012; email – vmajewsk@buffalo.edu. You will need to set aside at least 10 minutes so that she can review your packet with you. Please do not simply drop off your materials to the office and leave.
YOU ARE SUBMITTING:
1) A printed copy of the Prehealth Committee Application and/Data Sheet
2) Unofficial Transcripts from UB (My Grades off of MyUB) and any transcripts from transfer work.
3) Items #7-9 from the Prehealth Committee Application/Data Sheet. Please type out “resume style”
4) Personal Statement - #10 on the Prehealth Committee Application/Data Sheet
5) Be sure to read and answer appropriately #12 on the Prehealth Committee Application/Data Sheet. Please be sure to read the question carefully and contact us if you are unsure how to answer it. You want to report any disciplinary action/academic integrity issue regardless of whether you completed the required community service hours or regardless of whether you applied for the record to be expunged or you believe any record has already been expunged.
6) $40 fee.
7) A black and white headshot (passport size photo).
The ONLY materials sent on to the professional schools from our office include your individual letters of recommendation and Prehealth Committee composite letter. We do not forward your essay, Prehealth Committee application, photo, transcripts, etc.
The SRC in 232 Capen must forward your official transcripts to the individual medical school.
Setting the Interview
Once you have submitted all your materials and have at least four letters in, you will be assigned a Prehealth Committee interviewer. In 3-5 days, you will be emailed your interviewer’s name and contact information. It is important that you contact this person promptly. They will be expecting to hear from you to arrange the date and time of your interview.
Please do arrive more than 10 minutes early for your interview but strive to be on time.
Please do not ask us to accept your application past the deadline or assign your interviewer without at least 4 letters by December 1. Doing so holds up the process for the entire pool. Our goal is to complete all letters by February 1, 2009.
