Osteopathic (DO) Medical Applications
Just a reminder that the central application service - AACOMAS - for applying to US osteopathic medicine schools (DO) is scheduled to open TODAY, June 4, 2007. As of 8:50 a.m. today, the site was not yet live.
Allopathic (MD) Medical School Applications
Tomorrow, June 5 is the first day that AMCAS reported that they will begin accepting applications for US MD schools. I will forward any updates on the Bulletin.
Please note that the following message will go out to all AACOMAS applicants overnight.
AACOMAS advises all applicants and prospective applicants in the AACOMAS system that the application deadline for Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine New York has been changed to 11:59 pm, Monday, April 30, 2007.
Although TouroCOM had planned to accept applications through the end of May, the college has concluded that because of the number and quality of applications already received, it would be unfair to new applicants if the college continued to accept their applications beyond the end of April.

Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS) Welcomes Applicants to VMCAS 2008!
2008 UPDATED VMCAS and SCHOOL information is now available.
Admission information on college prerequisites, college descriptor pages, and web application tips can be found by navigating through the Applying to Veterinary School link. College requirements vary amongst the colleges. VMCAS encourages applicants to check the school’s website for specific admission requirements and procedures. Applicants should confirm with the college(s) when their updated information will be available. As VMCAS prepares for the 2008 Application Season, we want to take a moment to provide you with some key dates.
The 2008 Application will launch Tuesday, June 5th. The application deadline, this year, is Monday, October 1st, 2007, at midnight ET. Applicants should start speaking to potential evaluators and confirm whether or not they will write an evaluation on their behalf.
Please be sure to familiarize yourself with the Electronic Letters of Recommendations (eLOR) process. This three year old secure system continues to grow in usage. Applicants find it easy to use. They also like the fact that they can track the progress of their evaluations online. Evaluators also like it because they can easily track their evaluations and it eliminates having to mail evaluations. Schools like the eLOR system because they now receive their materials much faster than in previous years.
In closing, please remember that our Student & Advisor Hotline is available to answer your questions, Monday - Friday from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM ET. Please either contact us by our toll free number, 1-877-862-2740 or by email, vmcas@aavmc.org. Thank you and we look forward to working with you this coming season.

Prehealth Committee Process for spring 2007 for those applying for fall 2008 admission - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Please see the following information for those of you preparing to apply for admission to US medical or dental schools for FALL 2008. This information would also pertain to sophomore students, who have not yet completed the Committee process, applying to UB’s Early Assurance Program to Dental School or the Upstate Medical College Early Assurance Program.
Our first deadline (and typically the deadline most advisable) is April 1, 2007 for fall 2008 admission. Since April 1 is a Sunday, we will accept your application until 5:00 p.m. Monday, April 2.
The Prehealth Committee is an important piece of overall application to US professional health schools (e.g., medicine, dentistry, optometry, podiatry).
We do not compose letters for pharmacy applicants, OT, PT or applicants to PA schools.
AN IMPORTANT NOTE: Effective SPRING 2007 - you are required to submit your APPLICATION BY MONDAY, APRIL 2 (again, April 1 is a Sunday) but we will accept your individual letters of recommendation until MONDAY, APRIL 16.
Since we are extending this time for you, please do not ask us to wait behind APRIL 16 for your required FOUR letters. You can submit a TOTAL OF SEVEN letters, but we need at least FOUR submitted by APRIL 16. If you have less than FOUR letters past April 16, the Committee reserves the right to NOT ACCEPT YOUR APPLICATION. You will then need to wait until the SEPTEMBER 1 deadline. If our office waits beyond April 16 for your FOUR letters, it comprises and delays the process for ALL APPLICANTS.
All necessary forms are located here.
All forms, aside from the Preprofessional Data Sheet/Application, are also available in 108 Norton.
**There is a detailed checklist of what you need to assemble for the Prehealth Committee on the shelves in 108 Norton.**
A minimum of FOUR letters of recommendation MUST BE RECEIVED for you by MONDAY, APRIL 16, 2007.
**Please remember that applications to these professions school have been on the rise and; therefore, they are extremely competitive schools to enter.
If your overall or science/math GPA is around or below a 3.0 (e.g., 2.8 to 3.3), please make an appointment to see the prehealth advisor prior to applying to the Prehealth Committee***
If after reading the website you need more information regarding this process, please call 645-6013 to set up an appointment.
