If you came through the Prehealth Committee in April 2008 in support of a 2009 application to any of the professional schools (or plan to do so in September 2008), you will want to be sure you complete and submit a Release Form to our office (109 Norton Hall) Form once you begin to receive secondary applications from individual schools. This is so our office has your permission to release your Prehealth Committee packet. If you are applying through AADSAS in support of a dental school application, you have more flexibility to release your letters at other times (earlier). The Release Form is available at our website. You can drop this off to us, mail it to us or fax to us at 716-645-3042. If we do not have a signed Release Form we CANNOT send your letters.
Remember if you are applying to MD, DO or OD (optometry) schools check to see if the school is using VirtualEvals first. If the school is NOT using VirtualEvals, you want to pre-address an envelope (available in 108 Norton) and pre-stamp with postage ($1.17) so we can send your packet via US mail. Please turn in your Release Form with your prepared envelopes to 109 Norton.
Both Virginia (Jinny) Majewski and I will be out of the office from Wednesday, May 7 to Friday, May 9. I will be checking email periodically over those days to address your general questions as well as any questions pertaining to applying for fall 2009. My regular appointment schedule will resume Monday, May 12. If you wish to set an appointment, please remember to call our main scheduling office at 716-645-6013. If you feel your questions can wait just a few days, please feel free to contact me as usual beginning May 12. Jinny will return to the office by Wednesday, May 14.
A request has come in for a tutor for Cellular Biology - BIO 201. If you have completed this course and earned a grade of “A” and wish to offer your services as a tutor for a fellow UB student, please email Libby Morsheimer at etm3@buffalo.edu. With your permission, we will then forward your name and email to the student seeking tutoring services. You can then work out any arrangements with this individual.
Over the past few weeks, our office has received literature and postings regarding several offshore medical schools both in the Caribbean and in Europe. Some of the schools are more newly formed; others have been in operation for some time. Application to a medical school, regardless of where is it located, is a sizeable and important decision that can have long lasting implications. There are many excellent schools offshore and in Europe; we would simply encourage you to make a well informed decision by exploring all your options.
If you are considering attending an offshore or European medical school, we would strongly encourage you to speak to an advisor first. There are numerous factors to consider. Many times students are concerned about the passage of time and use this as their primary motivator to pursue their medical education outside of the US.
Our office runs a session on applying to offshore schools each year. We are happy to share any materials from this session with you so that you make the best decision for you for your future career in medicine.

Join Mr. Mackel Harris from Life University on Monday, March 31, 2008 at 3:30 p.m. (ROOM TO BE ANNOUNCED) to learn more about the field of chiropractic as well as admissions’ requirements and details about Life University. Chiropractors, also known as doctors of chiropractic or chiropractic physicians, diagnose and treat patients with health problems of the musculoskeletal system and treat the effects of those problems on the nervous system and on general health. Many chiropractic treatments deal specifically with the spine and the manipulation of the spine. Chiropractic medicine is based on the principle that spinal joint misalignments interfere with the nervous system and can result in lower resistance to disease and many different conditions of diminished health.
A total of six prehealth students are needed to help meet and greet prospective UB students and their parents on Saturday, March 29 from 11:00-3:00 for the annual UB spring Open House. There are two shifts available: 11:00-1:00 and then from 1:00-3:00. The first six students who repond will be selected and you will receive an email confirmation of your participation. We will have a UB t-shirt for you to wear that day.
