Part Time Job Available with the Department of Emergency Medicine
The Department of Emergency Medicine is looking for a clinical data collector to work in the Erie County Medical Center Emergency Department located at 462 Grider Street. The clinical data collector will be responsible for identifying any emergency department patients who meet inclusion criteria for on-going clinical research. The data collector will be responsible for interacting with patients and emergency department staff to gather relevant study data. The data collectors will also screen all female patients for domestic violence and will present all patients with care satisfaction surveys.
The shifts that will become available are:
Mondays 8a-4p starting July 21
Wednesdays 4p-12a starting July 16
Thursdays 4p-12a starting July 17
Sundays 4p-12a starting July 20

The Illinois College of Optometry is pleased to announce their summer program for underrepresented minority undergraduate students. The program is a weeklong experience that will expose undergraduate students to the profession of optometry in a variety of settings. Participants will have the opportunity to meet and work with current optometry students, ICO Faculty & Staff, as well as practicing optometrists.
Students will be housed at no charge in our Residential Complex. There is no cost to participate in this program. Participants are responsible for their travel expenses and/or transportation cost to and from ICO.

The Admissions Office at New York College of Podiatric Medicine, NYCPM is excited to announce the 2008 Pre-Matriculation Summer Program dates.
The program, which takes place from July 7, 2008 through August 15, 2008, consists of three parts:
Participants take a combination of three courses from the Pre-Clinical Sciences curriculum at NYCPM. e.g., Biochemistry, Histology, Physiology, Anatomy, or Genetics
Students are exposed to podiatric medicine, clinical procedures, and patient care by shadowing in our clinic, The Foot Clinics of New York.
Students learn reading comprehension, time management, and note taking skills, designed specifically to prepare them for medical school.
The program fee is $700.00. Current undergraduate students who have completed a minimum of 80 credit hours with no previous applications to a podiatry school can apply for tuition exemption. Tuition exemptions will be approved based on the student’s academic achievements as well as their demonstrated motivation to pursue a medical profession.
Students will still be responsible for room and board and separate housing fees apply should students request accommodations in our housing facilities. Six weeks of medical exposure while living with medical students from across the country in New York City is an unparalleled opportunity.

St. George’s University in Grenada is hosting their fifth annual 10 day Summer Med/Vet Academy combining didactic lectures, small group problem solving sessions, practical lab work as well as hands on training in simulated and real-life situations. The experience is enhanced by several educational and adventurous off campus excursions including snorkeling, dolphin watching, and hiking. Effective the 2008 Summer Academy, qualifying participants will receive college credit through the School of Arts and Sciences (St . George’s) from participation in lectures and clinical practices.

Georgetown University is pleased to announce the fourth Georgetown Summer Medical Institute for college students (rising juniors and seniors) and post-bacs. This is a unique opportunity to take an actual medical school course, taught by medical school faculty of Georgetown University. Students will receive an education in the medical sciences and learn what it’s like to go to medical school. In addition, students who enroll in one of our for-credit courses will be eligible to participate in two seminar-style courses designed to educate them on the medical school application process (Medical Admissions Workshops) and issues faced by physicians in today’s health care environment (Physician in Society).

The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine is hosting two summer camps for pre-medical students. These programs are meant for pre-meds wanting an intense experience that is both intellectual and experiential.

These programs have been created with the serious pre-med in mind. There are stimulating lectures, hands-on activities, and physician shadowing during the two weeks. They include a session with the Assistant Dean for Admissions about applying to medical school. The program is unable to offer tuition assistance at this time.
The Research Associates (RA) Program brings college students into the emergency department as part of clinical research studies at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, CT. Positions are available for the summer session, 2008.
Due to the demand, they have instituted a “first-come, first-serve” policy. Acceptances into the program will depend primarily on the date we receive a completed application and program tuition. Those applications received after the available positions are filled will be placed on a wait-list should there be cancellations.
