LEADERSHIP CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

Why Leadership Certification?
• Develop self as a confident and competent leader
• Connect and network with other future leaders
• Create a personalized leadership track with your Leadership Advisor
• Receive a certificate verifying your leadership training and experiences

Students who complete all the requirements by the deadline will receive their certificate at the end of the spring semester.

Getting Started:
• Stop by the Center for Leadership and Community Engagement (CSLCE), 235 Student Union
• Set up a meeting with a Leadership Advisor (be sure to mention any programs you’ve participated in already)

SITE WORKSHOP: ADVOCACY MENTORING

This workshop will explore different ways in which people support or speak up on behalf of others. We will focus on how little things we do on a daily basis can make a big difference and inspire others to stand up for what they believe in as well.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT FAIR

The CSLCE Community Engagement Fair is an opportunity for UB students to become aware of various engagement and volunteer opportunities available within the Buffalo and Western New York communities. Whether you’re looking to volunteer for fun, experience or it’s a requirement, there will be volunteer agencies represented various organizations needing volunteers in areas such as: health, youth, refugee, elderly care, environment, education and more! The Fair takes place every fall.

The next Community Engagement Fair will take place on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 in the Student Union Lobby.

We have over 40 organizations attending this year’s fair!

SATURDAY OF SERVICE: ADVOCACY SERVICE

DATE: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2009 @ 8:45 AM- 2:00 PM
LOCATION: STUDENT UNION LOBBY

HOSTED BY: CENTER FOR STUDENT LEADERSHIP AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

Saturday of Service is a monthly service opportunity for students to volunteer and help serve the local Buffalo and WNY Community.
Saturday of Service locations are linked to the social issue discussed at that month’s SITE Workshop, however attendance at the workshop is not required. Advanced registration is required for all Saturday of Service events. Students participating in Saturday of Service will meet in the entrance to the Student Union, North Campus at 8:45 am on the morning of the Saturday of Service and will be back to the Student Union by 2 pm. Transportation is provided.

Project Theme: Advocacy Mentoring
Volunteers will be going to the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy to assist with “Oktoberfest” in Cazenovia Park. This is an important fundraiser for the Parks and need us to help set up for the event.

UNIVERSITY STUDENT ALUMNI BOARD’S J. SCOTT FLEMING SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM- DEADLINE EXTENDED!!!!

USAB Accepting Applications for $500 Scholarships

The University Student Alumni Board (USAB), student affiliate of the UB Alumni Association, is currently seeking applicants for the annual J. Scott Fleming Scholarship Awards, a $500 student-to-student scholarship program funded solely by USAB’s fundraising efforts throughout the year. Up to four full-time undergraduate, graduate, or professional students at UB will receive this great honor. Any student who has demonstrated a commitment, through their extra-curricular and volunteer activities, to promoting student involvement and enhancing the student experience at UB are invited to apply. Self-nominations are required. The application must be received by Friday, October 23, 2009 at 12 Noon in 103 Center For Tomorrow on North Campus.
