Dentistry
A Working Plan
If you plan to attend Dental school directly after graduation, here is one possible timetable to follow:
Freshman
- Coursework: MATH 121-122 or 141-142; CHEMISTRY 101-102; ENGLISH 101-201; BIOLOGY 200-201.
- Begin involvement in health related volunteer work.
- Join and become active in clubs and organizations - join APMS, MHRP.
- Get to know professors. See the preprofessional health advisor at least once.
Sophomore
- Coursework: CHEMISTRY 201-202 or equivalent; ENGLISH LIT. if needed due to waiver.
- Volunteer in a dental clinic and private practice; explore research opportunities.
- Maintain participation in clubs and organizations; apply for AED Honor Society membership.
- Get to know professors. See the Preprofessional Health Advisor at least once; attend appropriate workshops; subscribe to the Prehealth Listserv.
Junior
(or 16 months prior to intended date of entry to medical or dental school)
- Coursework: PHYSICS 101/151-102/152 or equivalent.
- See the Preprofessional Health Advisor in the fall; attend appropriate workshops; subscribe to the Prehealth Listserv.
- Seek references; send to Preprofessional Health Advising Office by deadline.
- Plan for review for professional exams.
- Obtain Preprofessional Health Committee Application - April 1 deadline.
- Register for the DAT in the early winter (Jan-Feb) and prepare to take in the spring or early summer.
- Continue involvement in health related volunteer and/or research work.
- Maintain participation in clubs and organizations.
- Obtain service and non-service school applications in late spring; complete by earliest deadline.
- Complete secondary applications in summer.
Senior
- Coursework: complete any other needed coursework. Update Preprofessional Health Advisor.
- Register to retake the DAT if necessary.
- Complete Preprofessional Health Committee Application by September 1 if not done in spring.
- Complete applications and send as soon as possible.
