Finding Summer Opportunities in Healthcare

Are you not sure what opportunities are out there for you this summer? An applicant has to have more than just the grades and test score to get into a professional health program; schools want well rounded students. The summer is a great time to add experiences to your resume. Learn how to make the most of your summer with opportunities for health related experience, research, and community service this summer.

So, You Want to Be a Doctor, Dentist, Vet, Chiropractor, Optometrist, Podiatrist, or Physician Assistant?

If you are a freshman or sophomore or perhaps just beginning to think about applying to the professional health schools (e.g., medical school, vet school, dental school), come to this workshop to learn what you can be doing NOW to prepare. Learn how you can become a competitive applicant for admission to these schools by knowing the required courses, information about clinical experiences, recommendation letters and admission tests. You also want to begin to reflect upon your personal characteristics and consider how these relate to being a health professional.

Financing a Medical/Dental Education

You are excited about the prospect of attending one of the professional health schools but are not sure how you will afford it! Additionally, you need to think about budgeting and living within your means. If this describes you, be sure to attend this workshop and receive valuable information regarding financing your advanced education. Experts from the Office of Financial Aid who specialize in medical and dental school aid will be speaking and detailed handouts will be distributed.

Writing the Personal Statement

Your personal statement for application to the professional health schools (medical, dental, veterinary, optometry) is required and an *important* piece of your total application. Learn the DOs and DON’Ts of writing an EFFECTIVE essay that reflects all you have to offer. Get an opportunity to read and critique samples of personal statements. A detailed handbook for reference will be distributed.

UB School of Dental Medicine Tour

Join us for a tour of the UB School of Dental Medicine! Up to 30 students will have the opportunity to hear from and speak with Dr. David Brown, Director of Admissions, speak with current dental students, and then have a question and answer session with pizza. RSVP absolutely required and details will be sent out to students via our Prehealth listserv. Directions to add yourself to our listserv are on our homepage.

Preparing for Fall 2013 Application to the Professional Health Schools

Are you ready to apply for admission in Fall of 2013? Do you know what you need to do to submit a complete and competitive application? The Prehealth Committee process? The timelines? Get an overview of the APPLICATION CYCLE for ALL (medical, dental, optometry, podiatry, chiropractic, vet) the professional health schools for fall 2013. A detailed handbook will be distributed describing: your responsibilities, key deadlines, information regarding your personal statement, admissions' tests, etc. Important information for ALL applicants!

Prehealth Committee Student Information Meetings

The Prehealth Committee Student Meetings are designed to provide you with all you need to know for applying for a Prehealth Committee Letter and detail how the process will work. The application deadline is March 15, 2012, so be sure to attend one of these meetings to sign your intent card!
